NVIDIA Unveils Comprehensive Platform for Developing Human-Like Robots

NVIDIA has unveiled a groundbreaking platform that aims to revolutionize the field of humanoid robotics. The new platform, which includes several key components, is designed to enable the development of human-like robots with advanced capabilities powered by generative AI.

At the heart of this platform is Project GR00T (Generalist Robot 00 Technology), NVIDIA's foundation model for humanoid robots. This versatile AI system is designed to allow robots to understand natural language and emulate human movements by observing and learning from actions. This enables the robots to quickly acquire essential skills, such as coordination and dexterity, that are crucial for navigating, adapting to, and interacting with the human environment.

Complementing Project GR00T, NVIDIA has also introduced two significant additions to its Isaac robotics platform. The first is the Isaac Manipulator, a collection of pre-trained foundation models for controlling robotic arms with state-of-the-art dexterity and modular AI capabilities. This allows for a significant speedup in path planning and enhanced perception, enabling developers to automate a wider range of robotic tasks.

The second addition is the Isaac Perceptor, which provides robots with advanced multi-camera, 3D surround-vision capabilities. This enhanced visual perception is crucial as robots become increasingly integrated into human environments, allowing them to navigate and interact more seamlessly.

To power these advanced humanoid robots, NVIDIA has unveiled the Jetson Thor, a new computer system designed specifically for complex tasks and safe human-machine interactions. Featuring a next-generation GPU based on NVIDIA's Blackwell architecture, the Jetson Thor delivers 800 teraflops of 8-bit floating-point AI performance, enabling it to run the powerful generative AI models that are the foundation of Project GR00T.

The Jetson Thor's modular architecture is optimized for performance, power, and size, simplifying the design and integration efforts for robotics companies. With an integrated functional safety processor, a high-performance CPU cluster, and 100GB of Ethernet bandwidth, the Jetson Thor provides the necessary computing power and connectivity to support the advanced capabilities of NVIDIA's humanoid robotics platform.

NVIDIA has already established partnerships with leading humanoid robot companies, including Agility Robotics, Apptronik, Boston Dynamics, Figure AI, and Sanctuary AI, among others. These collaborations aim to build a comprehensive AI platform that can power the next generation of human-like robots, capable of navigating, adapting, and interacting with the real world in ways that were previously unimaginable.

As the race to develop commercially viable humanoid robots continues, NVIDIA's comprehensive platform, which combines advanced AI, robotics, and computing technologies, positions the company as a key player in this rapidly evolving field. By empowering roboticists with the tools and resources to create human-like machines, NVIDIA is paving the way for a future where robots and humans can work together seamlessly, tackling some of the world's most pressing challenges.
